Hero

"Hero" came to our humane society through the sheriff's department. He was a stray cat that went to the wrong house! The family has a 21 year old son who held the cat while trying to get his dog to kill him. In the process of "Hero" trying to get away, from the dog, the son was bitten. "Hero" came to us for a ten day rabies quarantine. While in our care, when he could urinate, there was a lot of blood. There were several trips to the vet clinic to unplug him. Long story short, we were referred to the University Hospital to try and solve this problem. The doctors there found he had been shot in his left side, and the bb was in his bladder. That was what kept plugging him, and explained all of the blood in his urine. The surgery to remove that bb was very delicate, and expensive. His bill at the University was over $2200.00. We know it's a lot of money, but just could no put him to sleep knowing he could be saved and have a normal life. We are happy to report that he came through the surgery just fine, and is doing great.

Thank you to all who helped with Hero's expenses. Jill Tostenrud and Sue Guggisberg organized all of the fundraising that was done for Hero. They organized a bake sale that was a huge success, and donation boxes were placed around New Ulm and Mankato. Thank you to the New Ulm Journal and the Mankato Free Press for writing stories, telling everyone about Hero. Because everyone cares so much, all of Hero's medical expenses were covered through donations. THANK YOU!! The BCHS even had some extra donations. The extra money was used to help a dog named Blackie with heartworm treatment. Also, a "Hero Fund" has been started for animals just like Hero who need a little extra help. Thank you to everyone!!
