Jodi Runck Chosen
Minnesota
Certified Veterinary
Technician of the Year

Jodi Runck has been named
Minnesota Veterinary Technician of the Year.
Nominated by Dr. Sharon Hurley of the Nicollet-New
Ulm Veterinary Clinic,
the one thousand plus membership of the Minnesota
Association of Veterinary
Technicians (MAVT) honored
Jodi with a majority vote, and this award, at
their annual meeting in February, 2002.
To become a
Certified Veterinary Technician in
Minnesota, Jodi explained, a student
must first graduate from a two to four year program at a school
accredited by the Minnesota
Veterinary Medical Association. An
accredited
school graduate is eligible to take the Minnesota certification
examination.
Jodi graduated from the University
of Minnesota, Waseca in
1989. She
worked at the Minnesota
Valley Veterinary Clinic from
1989 until the
merger in 1996. Since 1996 Jodi has worked at the Nicollet-New
Ulm Veterinary Clinic.
With the exceptions of
diagnosis, drug prescription and surgery,
a Certified Veterinary
Technician can administer
veterinary medical care.
Drawing blood, assisting in surgery, administering anesthesia,
laboratory work, radiography, and assisting the attending veterinarian
with examinations are among the responsibilities of a CVT.
Jodi and Denise Kuester, also a
Certified Veterinary Technician at
the
Nicollet-New Ulm Veterinary Clinic, are
area representatives for the MAVT,
Minnesota divided into six areas. Re-certification requires ten credits
of ongoing education every two years. Area representatives are
responsible for organizing continuing education classes.
An active member of the Brown
County Humane Society, Jodi
assists
in caring for BCHS animals at the clinic. She also collects money from
the eight BCHS donation dog house boxes around town.
Quarterly income is around $150.
Jodi enjoys working with
animals. When asked if there is anything
she would like to add, Jodi said, "I want to thank Dr. Hurley for
nominating me."
Congratulations, Jodi, on a
well deserved honor.
