Maggie is Home!

Maggie at the rescue farm - Aug. 2, 2002
Ed. note: Maggie was one of the
85 dogs rescued from the farm near
Springfield last July. She was very afraid of men and dog aggressive.
But she loved to be walked and petted. She didn't eat for the first 3
days.
The BCHS took her to her foster home in Cambria on August 10. She did
well there - gained weight and confidence but the perfect home eluded her.
Until now. She moved to her "forever home" in early March with the
help of
Pet Pals for Life in Sioux Falls,
SD. They saw Maggie on our web site and thought
they had known her sister. They put her on their web site and a week
later,
she found a home. Here’s how great life is now.......
My husband and I had talked
about getting a dog many times.
With our lifestyle though it just didn't seem like it would be fair
to an animal to even think about it. We work long hours and have
interests that take us away on weekends. After seeing Maggie's
picture and hearing more about her situation though we, I decided to
ONLY inquire about her. Yeah right, inquire only! I was hooked. I told my
husband she needed us and that I maybe I needed her too. Work has been
stressful in the past but having the unconditional love of such a
beautiful
animal, how could your heart not melt and your troubles too? We are
welcomed
home every night by such a great face and a dangerous tail! If I'm not
careful
she is right in the car on my lap to say
"Hi, I missed you and am so happy you are home."
Maggie was so very shy when she
first came to us.
Now it is as if she was always here. She has taken over our lives.
With the cats permission, on occasion, she gets to take over
part of the house. We get "good morning" smiles first thing in
the
morning and happy wags and excitement to see us at night.
Unconditional love, could you ask for more from such a beautiful creature?
She just wants to be part of the family and that she is.
I have tears of joy in my eyes
as I am writing this. She is such a beautiful girl.
Her color is changing. As my daughter put it, "she's getting a
tan."
Yes, her tan is getting a shade darker and her back is getting more black.
She and I are enjoying the house to ourselves, more or less, right now.
Dad went to the store and kitty is asleep in the closet. Hope this SHORT
note gives an idea of our life with Maggie. Like I said, it is hard to
limit
myself to a little talk about her but then you know what I mean, don't you?!
